CLIENT CASE

Making values matter in a large public sector organization

1. The challenge

The senior leadership in a public sector organization with about 11.000 employees had identified a need to get clear on values and address cultural challenges around a lack of collaboration and ability to adapt quickly to changing needs. They were concerned that the traditional ways of working with values and culture didn’t produce the needed results.

2. The response

We helped the senior executives and HR directors clarify their values (based on input from across the organization) and create an overarching culture strategy for the entire organization. The culture strategy was then vetted and integrated by the leadership in each department. We also helped facilitate a leadership day for 400 managers focused on values-based leadership.

3. The journey

The process helped the senior executives rethink the role and function of culture and make it concrete and practical instead of complex and vague. They are currently outworking the strategy and learning what works and what doesn’t, making adjustments along the way to build a healthier and more resilient culture.
